Job description

Emory University’s Oxford College invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor of Philosophy to begin August 2015. The successful candidate will have demonstrated competence in the history of Western philosophy, particularly Ancient, Medieval, and Modern philosophy, and will be able to teach an upper-division course in Bioethics, Philosophy of Law, or Environmental Ethics.  In addition, a record of successful teaching and a commitment to teaching excellence in the liberal arts tradition, and an ongoing program of research are required.  The incumbent will teach three courses per semester, advise students, and contribute to the work of committees. 

A Ph.D. in Philosophy is required by the time of appointment.

One of Emory’s nine academic divisions, Oxford College provides 900 freshmen and sophomore students with a liberal arts intensive program for the first two years of the Emory baccalaureate degree.  The College is fully residential and occupies Emory’s historic campus 36 miles east of Atlanta.
