Appointment:
Full-time, three-year (non-tenure track) position beginning Fall 2015.

The Humanities Program at the University of Puget Sound invites applications for a three-year postdoctoral fellowship in the Digital Humanities.  We are looking for someone with the demonstrated ability to introduce 21st-century tools and methods for conducting research and presenting information to both students and faculty at our four-year liberal-arts institution.  The successful candidate will collaborate with current faculty, library staff, and educational technologists to integrate digital tools and methods into curricula across a range of academic departments and programs. The position will also require doctoral-level subject-matter knowledge and teaching experience in a discipline associated with the humanities.  We particularly welcome applicants with specialization in Film Studies and/or Queer Studies.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, document, and deliver self-contained and customizable learning modules in two or more of the following technology-based practices:
• spatial humanities/GIS/”thick mapping”
• computer-assisted text analysis
• development of multimedia and/or interactive virtual environments
• network visualizations of online materials
•  three-dimensional modeling and reconstruction of historical and archeological sites
• preparation and curation of digital collections
• Teach semester-length introductory and advanced courses in her/his field of specialization, and use these courses as a platform for developing and refining hands-on instruction in computer-assisted humanities research and presentation methods.  (Standard teaching assignment is three courses per semester. The teaching load for this position will be two courses per semester to allow time for development and delivery of workshops for students and faculty described above.)

Qualifications:

• A Ph.D. (ABD considered) in a humanities-related field with a promising record of publishing and/or presenting at professional conferences about how to introduce digital tools and techniques into traditionally “analog”-oriented programs of study.
• A record of successful teaching generally at the undergraduate level.
• A strong ongoing commitment to innovative, technically sophisticated pedagogy.

Compensation and Benefits:

This position is funded, with generous assistance from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, at the postdoctoral level with an anticipated salary of $51,000.  The University of Puget Sound offers a generous benefits package.
