Assistant Professor (EXPIRED)

Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Philosophy and Cognitive Sciences, beginning in August 2015.  This is a 9-month appointment with an expected teaching load (pre-tenure) of 5 courses per academic year, with the possibility of optional summer teaching. The position is pending budgetary approval.

We especially encourage applicants to apply who are excited at the prospect of interdisciplinary research and teaching in cognitive sciences that integrates research or creative projects in diverse areas of inquiry.  This can include, but is not limited to, topics such as in the biological, neural, psychological or social sciences, education, cultural or religious studies, technology, HCI, robotics or AI, linguistics, language or communications, the arts, or the humanities.

The successful candidate must have:

• A Ph.D. in philosophy or a related discipline, or a cognitive science discipline with at least 18 graduate credit hours of coursework in philosophy, from an accredited institution awarded by time of hire
• A research specialization and active research program in philosophy of cognitive sciences
• Ability to teach effectively graduate and undergraduate courses in philosophy of cognitive sciences

Preference may be given to candidates who have:

• A strong history of publication
• A demonstrated history of, or potential for, obtaining external funding
• All requirements for the Ph.D. met by May 31, 2015
• A demonstrated history of effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level
• A demonstrated history of efforts to improve teaching effectiveness
• The ability to contribute to the department’s other teaching needs in history of philosophy, contemporary philosophy, phenomenology (esp. embodiment), existentialism, logic and ethics, as well as in our programs in Humanities and Cultural Studies, and Religion and Cultural Studies.
