Posting Number: 0800416   Job Title: Visiting Assistant Professor   Application Deadline: 12-01-2014 Department: School of Film and Media Studies: Full-Time      Salary: $53,000-$58,000   Description: The Cinema Studies and Philosophy Boards of Study at Purchase College, SUNY, seek to appoint a three-year, renewable Lecturer, to begin September, 2015. Teaching responsibilities include five courses a year plus supervision of six senior projects. A senior project is a college-wide requirement and signature feature of the Purchase curriculum. Four of the five courses will routinely serve Cinema Studies and/or Philosophy, and a fifth will routinely serve the needs of Purchase's General Education Program (e.g., a section of College Writing).

Purchase College is an undergraduate institution located 25 miles north of New York City. Because it houses a unique combination of Liberal Arts and Sciences majors and Arts Conservatory programs, our faculty and staff are committed to inspiring an appreciation for both intellectual and artistic talent in all students, with an emphasis on writing of all kinds. Purchase is ranked among the Best 376 Colleges by Princeton Review.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD, in Philosophy and/or Cinema Studies by Sept. 1, 2015. The successful candidate will have a strong inter- or multi-disciplinary research program. We are particularly interested in scholars whose work attends to gender, new media, experimental cinema, and changing technologies, and draws on the history of modern European philosophy as well as 20th Century continental philosophy, including both post-structuralism and Frankfurt School critical theory.

The successful candidate will be able to design and teach an array of courses in all the areas just noted. In addition, ability to teach courses in multiple periods in the history of European Philosophy (e.g., introductory and advanced courses in ancient Greek philosophy, early modern philosophy, and German Idealism) is also essential, as is the ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in Cinema Studies. Evidence of teaching ability will be highly valued.

Applicants must attach the following documents: (1) Cover letter describing research interests and interest in joint position; (2) CV; (3) writing sample under "Other Document #1"; (4) evidence of teaching ability and statement of teaching philosophy under "Other Document #2"; (5) sample syllabi under "Other Document #3"; (6) three letters of reference.

Special Note: Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
