Job description

The Research Training Group "Philosophy, Science, and the Sciences" advertises a full-time post-doctoral position at the rank of Junior Researcher (wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The position can be awarded for a maximum of two years. Starting date April 1, 2015 or, in special cases, as late as October 1, 2015. This is a research position. The candidate is expected to pursue research relating to the intersection and interaction of philosophy and mathematics in ancient Greek and/or Arabic contexts. We seek projects that address the mathematical method of analysis (Greek analusis, Arabic tahlîl) and its connection to philosophy. The position is within the Department of Philosophy and the Graduate Program in Ancient Philosophy. The salary is set by the salary scale according to German WissZeitVG - E 13 TV-L HU. The holder of the position will be expected: (1) to pursue a significant original research project on the topic and (2) to work closely with graduate students in the Research Training Group, by providing general instruction and by providing supplemental advising on dissertation projects.

We expect candidates to hold a PhD in a discipline relevant to the research project as well as to have a solid background and research experience in the relevant fields; excellent English (speaking and writing).
