Visiting Assistant Professor – Environmental Humanities

DAVIDSON COLLEGE, a highly-selective, nationally-ranked, residential, four-year liberal arts college located 20 minutes north of Charlotte, North Carolina, invites applications for a two-year visiting assistant professor position in Environmental Humanities, beginning August 1, 2015. Teaching load is five courses annually. Courses include an interdisciplinary foundation course in Environmental Humanities, a first-year writing course, and courses in the applicant’s areas of expertise; there may be additional possibilities for mentoring undergraduate research projects. We particularly seek applicants with doctoral degrees in interdisciplinary Environmental Humanities and those who use historical approaches. We also welcome applications from those who specialize in environmental aspects of Art History, History, Philosophy, Ethics, or Religion, especially those with specializations in postcolonial, comparative, or non-Western approaches, as well as environmental justice, applied ethics, or issues of race and ethnicity. PhD by July 31, 2015. Candidates must have experience teaching undergraduates and are expected to be highly committed to excellence in undergraduate education.

In addition to the interdisciplinary major in Environmental Studies, Davidson has interdisciplinary majors in Africana Studies, East Asian Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Latin American Studies, as well as interdisciplinary programs in Digital Studies, Ethnic Studies, Film and Media Studies, Global Literary Theory, Middle East Studies, and South Asian Studies. Possible cross-listed courses and collaborations with one or more of these areas are encouraged.

Please visit https://jobs.davidson.edu to submit a letter of application (which should include information about the applicant’s research, teaching experience, and brief descriptions of potential courses), curriculum vitae, sample syllabi of courses applicant is prepared to offer, and the names and contact information for three references who have agreed to provide letters of recommendation. At least one letter should address the applicant’s teaching.

Review of applications begins on January 15, 2015 and will continue until the position is filled.

Davidson is strongly committed to achieving excellence and cultural diversity, and welcomes applications from women, members of minority groups, and others who would bring additional dimensions to the college’s mission.
