Tenure Track Hire: “Assistant Professor, Medical Ethics” Position #36579

The Department of Philosophy in the College of Arts and Humanities and the College of Medicine M.D. Educational Program at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invite applications for a tenure-earning assistant professor in medical ethics beginning August 2015. This is a joint position with appointment in both the College of Arts and Humanities and the College of Medicine with tenure status in the Department of Philosophy. It is a 9-month appointment with an expected teaching load (pre-tenure) of 5 courses or their equivalent per academic year with the possibility of optional summer teaching.

A Ph.D. in Philosophy or closely related discipline with emphasis in medical ethics from an accredited university is required by the time of hire. The successful candidate will have research specialization or considerable research experience and teaching in medical ethics and must be able to teach courses at both the graduate (professional) and undergraduate levels. Thesis direction at the graduate (professional) and undergraduate level is expected as well as participation in program and course development in Philosophy and content development in the College of Medicine.

Preference may be given to candidates who have one or more of the following: experience teaching ethics in an accredited undergraduate or graduate medical educational program; experience with or demonstrated ability to develop Web-based instruction; a strong history of publication in relevant areas in medical ethics; a demonstrated history of or strong potential for obtaining external funding; demonstrated history of efforts to improve teaching effectiveness; ability to engage in interdisciplinary teaching and research in some combination of philosophy, humanities and cultural studies, cognitive sciences, or religion and cultural studies; and of particular interest is experience and ability to engage in teaching and research in medical humanities.
