Visiting Assistant Professor or Lecturer (EXPIRED)

Job description: The philosophy department at Rice University, located in Houston, Texas, plans to fill a one-year visiting position at the Assistant Professor or Lecturer level, to teach courses in the history of early modern philosophy, and, possibly, a course in Kant and post-Kantian European philosophy. The load is two courses per term: one historical introductory course, a survey course in early modern required for the major, an upper-level course in modern philosophy, and one further course to be decided in consultation with the department Chair. To be considered at the Assistant Professor level, the candidate must already be employed at that rank elsewhere and must return to that position after the term of service at Rice is completed. Salary for a Visiting Assistant Professor is $50,000. For the Lecturer position, those with the PhD in hand at the time of application will be preferred, but candidates who will have the PhD prior to the appointment date – July 1, 2015 – will also be carefully considered. Salary for the Lecturer position will be $40,000. The person who fills the position will not be expected to do department or university service. Some limited funds for travel and research will be available.
