Job description |
The Stanford Online High School (OHS) is an accredited, diploma-granting independent school serving students in grades 7-12. The OHS brings together academically talented and motivated students from around the world into a vibrant intellectual community with teachers who are passionate about their disciplines, accomplished in their fields, and above all, dedicated to teaching. In the discussion seminar, a cornerstone of the OHS education, students and teachers engage in a rigorous academic program that develops the critical reasoning and argumentation skills so essential for success at the collegiate level and beyond. Beyond the classroom, students and instructors continue to collaborate in a dynamic school community, centered on student clubs, activities, competitions, and student publications. The Core Division is a unique and central component of the academic program at Stanford Online High School, which is designed to foster students’ philosophical skills and to nurture their interdisciplinary spirits, through the subject matters of science, history of science, political theory, and philosophy. Core instruction thus features excellence in analytical, critical and creative thinking, openness to various distinct disciplines in science and humanities, and deep enthusiasm for the pursuit of philosophical investigation on fundamental questions in those disciplines. Core Duties: • Prepare for class, lead discussion sections, record lectures, hold office hours, and assist students in using course materials. Qualifications Master’s degree (or equivalent course work) in subject area relevant to that being taught by instructor. One year experience teaching at the high school/college level, or equivalent, Ph.D. in Philosophy or a related field strongly preferred. • Facility with teaching traditional and online courses.
