Postdocs in Climate Justice (EXPIRED)

Two postdoctoral roles in philosophy or cognate discipline are available in the climate justice research stream of the Practical Justice Initiative. 

The research will focus on the crucial dimension that moral and political philosophy brings to understanding how we ought to respond to dangerous climate change, and how it can contribute to the work of other disciplines to bring about a just transition to a low carbon future. A major focus of the research program will be to map and analyse the moral dimensions of transitioning to low carbon societies. 

Other topics covered by the program include: ethical issues in resource use and renewable energy, models of how to distribute the burdens of climate change between and within nations, carbon budgets as well as egalitarian discussions of climate change. As the research program is heavily influenced by egalitarian political philosophy, there will be a focus on broader egalitarian themes. 

While primarily philosophical, the research will draw on several related disciplines, such as political theory, law, climate policy etc. An important part of the program will be to work closely with colleagues from a range of disciplines in the climate field and to coordinate the mapping of moral issues associated with climate transitions, under the direction of Professor Jeremy Moss. 

The position encompasses the production of research papers, reports, undertaking background research, organising events as well as produce high quality individual research. The role will also require assistance with funding applications and occasional teaching.
