Chair in Metaphysics (EXPIRED)

The Department of Philosophy is seeking to appoint an outstanding scholar working in any branch of metaphysics. We are a pluralistic and friendly department, which accommodates work in both ‘analytic’ and ‘Continental’ philosophical traditions. Our staff and postgraduate students pursue a notably diverse range of philosophical, historical and interdisciplinary research projects. Our research is structured around four research groups, each of which is a concentration of internationally excellent research strength:

• Applied Phenomenology
• Ethics & Aesthetics
• Mind, Language and Metaphysics
• Science, Medicine and Society

We have benefited from substantial investment in recent years, and are currently going through a further period of significant growth and renewal. As part of this, we are keen to strengthen the research cluster in Mind, Language and Metaphysics by appointing a philosopher of international distinction with a track record of academic leadership, including postgraduate supervision, and a commitment to excellence in teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to make a significant and substantial research impact, and strengthen and enrich the department’s research culture more broadly.
