Job description

This is a short-term job opportunity in the ethics of violence and political philosophy. We are looking for a relief teacher for 4 months and would pay for these 4 months a lump sum of 180,000HKD (that is around 21,000 Euro or 23,000 US Dollar). Housing is not provided.
The relief teacher would have to teach three courses: a course in our taught postgraduate program “Master in International and Public Affairs,” and two courses in our undergraduate program.
The first undergraduate course is entitled “On the Ethics of Violence” and covers topics like self-defense, punishment, war, torture, terrorism. The postgraduate course is entitled “War and Armed Conflicts: The Philosophical Issues” and covers the typical topics of just war theory. The second undergraduate course is entitled "Democracy and Its Critics." This course discusses basic and practical issues concerning the nature, justification, and limits of democracy. Topics include the concept and foundations of democracy, participatory democracy, the elitist challenge to democracy, Marxist critique of capitalist democracy, rational choice approaches to democracy, and others. The Syllabi for all three courses will be provided, and the relief teacher can somewhat adapt them to his/her preferences.
There will be 12 sessions for each course (one session per week), the graduate course is 3 hours, the undergraduate courses not quite 2 hours per session. The relief teacher need not teach tutorials.
Applicants with a publication background in the ethics of violence are preferred. Early applications might also have an advantage.
