Successful candidates will be expected to teach a 3-2 course load, including a variety of introductory and advanced courses; advise senior philosophy theses; contribute to the first-year seminar program; advise major and undecided students; and be an active participant in departmental programming, contributing to a vibrant departmental culture. Qualifications: The Ph.D. degree is required at time of appointment, along with evidence of teaching excellence and promising research. We especially welcome candidates who bring a focus outside the traditional canon, can contribute to the College’s Peace and Justice Studies program, and have the ability to build bridges to other departments and programs at the College. Gettysburg has announced two different positions; candidates may apply for either or both positions, but must so indicate in their cover letter. Gettysburg College is a highly selective liberal arts college located within 90 minutes of the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area. Established in 1832, the College has a rich history and is situated on a 220-acre campus with an enrollment of over 2,600 students. Since we are announcing two different positions, you must clearly state in your cover letter the position(s) for which you are applying. This is Position #2. The application includes a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the names and email addresses of three references. Referees will be contacted by Gettysburg once the application is otherwise complete. Your cover letter should also address: commitment to the ethos of the liberal arts tradition, expected research trajectory, and evidence of teaching excellence. At least one reference letter should also address teaching excellence. The department will begin reviewing applications by November 1 and continue until an appointment is made.
