Postdoctoral Research Fellow: Political/Moral Philosophy

A postdoctoral position is available as part of the research program of  the philosophy stream of the School of Humanities and Languages. The area of specialisation is flexible within the field of moral and political philosophy; however the program of research will be expected to enhance the research focus of the Practical Justice Initiative.  Major research areas currently being undertaken include topics within climate justice and contemporary egalitarianism.

The position has been created as part of the Practical Justice Initiative within UNSW Arts & Social Sciences, which has been funded through the University’s Strategic Priorities Fund.  During the 2-year fellowship, the Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be responsible for developing and undertaking new research projects in collaboration with Professor Jeremy Moss. Topics covered by the program include (but are not limited to): Climate justice, egalitarian approaches to justice and political obligation.

About the role

  • Level A salary (A$68K - A$91K) plus 17% superannuation and leave loading Consideration for Level B salary may apply for outstanding applicants
  • Full time, Fixed term for 24 months
  • The successful applicant will ideally commence by November 2015 (negotiable)

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will provide high quality assistance with the production of research papers, reports, organisation of events, as well as producing individual research. The incumbent may also be required to apply for or assist with funding applications.

About you

In addition to strong research excellence, to be successful in this role you will have:

  • PhD in Philosophy or related discipline or evidence of near completion
  • Demonstrated research excellence in research areas related to political philosophy, political theory or related discipline
  • The ability to coordinate a research project in political philosophy involving research from several disciplines
  • Willingness to contribute to a wider program of multi-disciplinary research in the area of political philosophy
