Job description

The Philosophy department at Gonzaga University invites applications for three full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor positions beginning fall semester 2016. AOS: open. AOC: open. Successful applicants will assume ongoing responsibility for teaching Critical Thinking (PHIL101), a University Core Curriculum course. Applicants should include a description of their interest in and approaches to this course in their Teaching Statement. Applicants should also be prepared to teach Philosophy of Human Nature (PHIL 201), Ethics (PHIL 301), and the Core Integration Seminar (CIS). The CIS is an interdisciplinary capstone course for the core curriculum, which encourages students to envision their role in the world, while integrating the principles of Jesuit education, prior components of the core, and their disciplinary expertise. Numerous Philosophy courses might be devised to meet the outcomes of the CIS, but the department is especially interested in courses that focus on issues related to healthcare, law, social justice, science, and information technology. Teaching load: 18 credits per year. Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Philosophy by August 1, 2016, demonstrated teaching excellence, and evidence of active scholarly engagement.
