Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Philosophy Join a vibrant campus community whose excellence is reflected in its diversity and student success. West Chester University is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Philosophy, tenure-track position, to begin August 2016. AOS: African-American or Africana Philosophy; AOC: Open. Normal teaching load 12 hrs/semester. The Department awards both BA and MA degrees in Philosophy, BA degrees in Religious Studies, and Graduate Certificate Programs in Applied Ethics. The department houses the Peace and Conflict Studies minor program and the College of Arts and Sciences offers teaching opportunities in the Honors College and in Women’s and Gender Studies. The University is also home to the Frederick Douglass Institute. Minimum Qualifications: Evidence of scholarly aptitude and earned Ph.D. in Philosophy; completion of the Ph.D. required by August 30, 2016. AOS: African-American or Africana Philosophy; AOC: Open. Criteria for Preference: The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to contribute toward our General Education program by teaching introductory courses in Philosophy, Ethics, and/or Existentialism, as well as upper division and graduate courses related to the AOS. Preference will be given to the candidate who demonstrates the ability to include diversity, postcolonial studies, interdisciplinarity, and social justice issues in their syllabi. Undergraduate education is the department’s primary mission and candidates must have a demonstrated ability to teach diverse students with varied learning styles. Preference will also be given to candidates who could contribute in some way to one or more of the programs mentioned above which are housed in the department and the College of Arts and Sciences. The Philosophy Department is committed to the notion of shared governance, so candidates with demonstrated administrative aptitude will be strongly preferred. In order to be considered a finalist, applicants must successfully complete an on-campus interview, which includes both a teaching demonstration and a scholarly presentation. The filling of this position is contingent upon available funding.
