Job description |
The Department of Philosophy at Santa Clara University, a private Jesuit, Catholic university, invites applications for a tenure-track position. The successful applicant will have an area of specialization in Metaphysics and an area of concentration in History of Philosophy (Ancient or Early Modern), with the ability to teach a two course first-year core sequence in Cultures and Ideas, lower division ethics courses, and/or Critical Thinking and Writing courses as well as upper division courses in their specialty. Successful candidates must have a strong commitment to both teaching and research and must be able to establish and maintain an active research program. The official load for tenure-track faculty is seven courses over three academic quarters, with a standard one-course reduction for research-active faculty; thus, the normal teaching load is six courses per year: two 10-week courses per academic quarter, over three quarters. The successful candidate will have a reduced teaching load of five courses in the first year of appointment. Located in the heart of northern California’s Silicon Valley, Santa Clara University is a private Jesuit, Catholic university and an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer, committed to excellence through diversity; in this spirit we particularly welcome applications from women, persons of color, and members of historically underrepresented groups. The University will provide reasonable accommodations to all qualified individuals with a disability. |
