Job description

The UCLA College of Letters and Science is seeking an outstanding scholar and teacher to assume the 1939 Society Samuel Goetz Chair in Holocaust Studies. Established in 1979 as the first such chair at a public research university, the chair is intended to support a professorship dedicated to the study of the Holocaust, its historical context, and its significance through a range of scholarly perspectives. The name of the chair recognizes the 1939 Society, an organization of Holocaust survivors and their descendants dedicated to Holocaust education, and longtime president of the organization, the late Dr. Samuel Goetz. The chair holder has the opportunity to pursue teaching, research, and programmatic initiatives of his/her design, working in collaboration with one or more home departments and the UCLA Alan D. Leve Center for Jewish Studies. We welcome applicants from any field in the humanities or social sciences, including – but not limited to – history, literature, anthropology, the visual arts, sociology, and philosophy. Applicants should have a distinguished record of publication and teaching and share in UCLA’s public mission of disseminating knowledge across campus and beyond.

To apply, go to: https://recruit.apo.ucla.edu/apply/JPF01651 and please upload a cover letter, CV, statement of philosophy of teaching, a list of up to five external referees, two representative pieces of writing (e.g., books, chapters, or articles), and a statement addressing past and/or potential contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Review of applications will begin on November 30, 2015, and continue until the position is filled.
