Job description

Assistant Professor of Philosophy

 

The University of Tampa is a medium-sized comprehensive, private university that delivers challenging and high-quality educational experiences to a diverse group of learners. The University offers more than 200 areas of study, including majors in our colleges of Arts and Letters, Business, Natural and Health Sciences and Social Sciences, Math and Education and 11 master’s programs. 

The Department of Philosophy & Religion at The University of Tampa invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Philosophy beginning in August 2016.

Teaching load is 3 courses (12 credit hours) per semester. The area of specialization (AOS) should be feminist philosophy and/or philosophy of race/Africana philosophy, both broadly construed. The area of concentration (AOC) is left open, but the successful candidate must be capable of teaching a wide variety of undergraduate philosophy courses, including Modern European Philosophy and courses in several of the following specific areas: ancient Greek philosophy, applied ethics, ethics, environmental philosophy/ethics, logic, metaphysics & epistemology, philosophy of art/aesthetics, philosophy of film, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of science.

Other responsibilities include developing and managing ongoing outcomes assessment procedures, student advising, curriculum development, serving as advisor to an undergraduate philosophy club, and service to the department, college, university, and broader community. Review of applications will begin on November 1 and continue until the position is filled.

The Department of Philosophy & Religion, with its three full time faculty members and forty majors, offers the B.A. degree in Philosophy and a minor. Its many activities include the preparation and coaching of a successful Ethics College Bowl team and an active Philosophy Club.

Ph.D. in Philosophy must be in hand no later than August 15, 2016. Teaching experience is preferred. The successful candidate will have a broad background in philosophy, will be committed to excellent undergraduate teaching, and will maintain an active record of scholarship through publications.
