Job description

The Philosophy Department at University of the Pacific is accepting applications for a three-year position as Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy, to begin August 2016. AOS: Cognitive Science/Philosophy of Mind. AOC: open. The teaching load is five courses per year, and may include Introduction to Cognitive Science (PHIL 125) and Sensation & Perception (to be cross-listed in the Psychology Department). The successful candidate should be a dynamic teacher-scholar who has experience making philosophy exciting to students from diverse backgrounds. Candidates will be expected to engage in scholarly activities. The position comes with the usual non-teaching duties, such as advising and committee work.

Review of applications will begin on December 10, 2015 and continue until the position is filled. Semifinalists will be interviewed via Skype in early January 2016.

University of the Pacific is a student-centered private comprehensive university with a mix of liberal arts and professional schools. The Philosophy Department is in the College of the Pacific, the liberal arts core of the University located in Stockton, California. Stockton, a city with a diverse population of about 300,000 people, is centrally located in North-Central California. It is approximately 45 miles south of Sacramento and 85 miles east of San Francisco. For those who like the outdoors, Stockton is surrounded by miles of waterway and is approximately 2.5 hours from Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park.
