Job description

Postdoctoral Research Associate, Psychology

The University of Virginia's Center for Genetics and Human Agency, under the direction of Eric Turkheimer, Ph.D, seeks applicants for a postdoctoral Research Associate. The position will involve conducting empirical, quantitative and philosophical studies of the genetics of complex human behavior. The postdoctoral research associate in psychology will be recruited based on his/her expertise in one of the two following areas: a) experience in the methods of behavioral genetics, including psychological, biological, philosophical and statistical aspects of genetics as applied to human behavior, and experience with computational tools for analysis of complex behavior (e.g., R, MPlus, OpenMx); OR b) experience with relevant issues in philosophy of science, biology and genetics (contemporary issues in philosophy of science, medicine and genetics) Given either area of expertise, experience with successful preparation of scholarly and scientific manuscripts is required. The position will also involve co-designing one course per year tied to the grant's focus on the genetics of very complex human behavior.

More generally, the Turkheimer lab investigates empirical, quantitative and philosophical approaches to complex human behavior, especially intelligence, personality and family processes. The successful candidate will design and implement new empirical and philosophical studies, conduct data analysis, prepare publications, manage components of ongoing studies, potentially write grants, and serve as a collaborative member of a team of research scientists. A PhD in Clinical or Quantitative Psychology, Philosophy, or a related field is required by start date. This position is full-time with full-time benefits.

This is a one-year appointment; however, appointment may be renewed for an additional two one-year increments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.

To apply, candidates must complete a candidate profile under job posting number 0617753 at http://jobs.virginia.edu.

Candidates are required to attach a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the contact information for three professional references.

The anticipated start date will be late summer of 2016 (specific date to be negotiated).

Review of applications will begin November 28, 2015; however, the position will remain open until filled.

Questions regarding the position and application process should be directed to Rich Haverstrom at [email protected].

The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to making a final offer of employment.

The University of Virginia is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. Women, minorities, veterans, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
