Job description

The Department of Philosophy at Misericordia University, located in Dallas, PA, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (non tenure-track with the possibility of renewal), beginning August 2016.

AOS: History of Philosophy (non-analytic), with a concentration in Asian Philosophy.  AOC: Ethical Theory (with an interest in Philosophy of Medicine, narrative model). The standard teaching load is 4/4.

A PH.D. in Philosophy is required (ABD considered). Preference will be given to candidates who view work in the History of Philosophy as a way of engaging the discipline itself. The department is especially interested in candidates from pluralist programs who consider the existential concerns of life as a foundation for teaching and research. A demonstrated ability to recruit and actively engage majors and minors is also highly desirable.

Misericordia University, a 90 year old institution founded by the Sisters of Mercy, offering baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degrees, is located adjacent to the Pocono Mountains region of Northeastern Pennsylvania, approximately 2 hours from New York City and Philadelphia.  The University’s approach of combining a quality liberal arts education with professional preparation and service to others has resulted in its wide regional acclaim.

Misericordia University is committed to student, faculty, and staff diversity and values the educational benefit this brings to campus.  Candidates should indicate any experience and/or leadership that contribute to this goal.
