Job description

The Department of Public Policy Leadership at the University of Mississippi invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor, starting in August of 2016. The term of the position will be 2 semesters. ABD or Ph.D. in Philosophy, Political Theory, or a related field is required. The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester. Each term, he or she will teach two sections of the department’s PPL 212 course, “Critical Thinking, Communication, and Public Policy,” which combines instruction in critical thinking and public speaking. He or she will also teach a further undergraduate course already in the curriculum or in his or her area of specialization.

The Department of Public Policy Leadership provides a challenging undergraduate major that prepares high-performing students for positions of leadership in an increasingly complex world. It maintains small class sizes and seminar style teaching environments. The interdisciplinary curriculum for the major incorporates geography, political science, public policy and administration, and philosophy. The program emphasizes in-depth understanding of policy issues, the global nature of responsible decision making, the ethical imperatives of leadership, critical thinking and communication skills, and the methodological skills necessary for careful policy analysis.
