Job description |
About The American University in Cairo: Founded in 1919, AUC moved to a new 270-acre state-of-the-art campus in New Cairo in 2008. The University also operates in its historic downtown facilities, offering cultural events, graduate classes, and continuing education. Student housing is available in New Cairo. Among the premier universities in the region, AUC is Middle States accredited; its Engineering programs are accredited by ABET, its Chemistry program is accredited by the Canadian Society for Chemistry, and the School of Business is accredited by AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. The AUC Libraries contain the largest English-language research collection in the region and are an active and integral part of the University's pursuit of excellence in all academic and scholarly programs. AUC is an English-medium institution; eighty-five percent of the students are Egyptian and the rest include students from nearly ninety countries, principally from the Middle East, Africa and North America. Faculty salary and rank are based on qualifications and professional experience. According to AUC policies and procedures, all faculty are entitled to generous benefits. Job Description: The American University in Cairo (AUC) is pleased to announce the continuation of its program of Core Teaching Fellowships, intended for recent PhD graduates. At present, we are specifically seeking qualified applicants in the field of philosophy. The successful applicant will be appointed for a three year term, as Core Curriculum Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellow with the rank of visiting assistant professor. Primary teaching duty will be two sections per semester of the required Core Curriculum course "Philosophical Thinking" - a center-piece of AUC's Freshman Program, which is designed to introduce students to the liberal arts with an emphasis on outcomes-based teaching and learning. While at AUC, the successful will also have the opportunity to teach a third course each semester in the Department of Philosophy, in his or her own area of research or interest, to apply for AUC’s generous travel (and other) faculty support grants, and of course to observe, work in and learn about one of the most fascinating countries in the world, Egypt. Requirements: Review of candidates will begin immediately; applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Normally, applicants for Core Curriculum Fellowships will have received their PhD degree within three calendar years of the date of application. In exceptional cases ABD's will be considered. Teaching experience is an asset, but not required. |
