Job description

The Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities at Bard College announces two post-doctoral fellowships for the 2016-2017 academic year. The fellows should have a Ph.D. in political theory, philosophy, or a related field in the humanities, and his or her work should intersect meaningfully with Hannah Arendt’s thinking.  In residence at the Arendt Center, the fellow will pursue his or her independent research at the Center, which includes Hannah Arendt’s personal library. The fellow will have access to Arendt’s Digital Archive through a relationship with the Arendt Center in New York City. In addition, the fellow will have the opportunity to participate in seminars, conferences, lectures, colloquia, and workshops organized by the Center.  

One fellowship is a cooperation between the Hannah Arendt Center and the Bard Prison Initiative. The joint Arendt Center – Bard Prison Initiative Fellow will teach one course each semester at one of Bard’s prison colleges.

The second fellow will be the Klemens von Klemperer Post-Doctoral Fellow and teach one course each semester at Bard College’s Annandale campus.

Both fellows will also be responsible for advising 1 Senior Thesis Project and giving one public lecture based on their work. The fellows will also have the opportunity to contribute to the Arendt Center blog.

Each fellowship runs from August 29th, 2016 through May 31, 2017 and includes compensation of $29,000 as well as medical benefits. Both fellowships are for one year renewable for a second year.
