The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, Philosophy, De Anza College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
Use student-centered pedagogy to teach a range of Philosophy courses from within departmental offerings (Knowledge and Reality, Social and Political Philosophy, Critical Thinking and Writing, Critical Thinking, Deductive Logic, Ethics, Philosophy of Religion, East Asian Philosophy, Ancient Greek Philosophy, Early Modern Philosophy, 19th-20th Century Philosophy, Existentialism, Women and Philosophy, Critical Consciousness and Social Change). Create an open arena to integrate the work of, and issues relating to, women, people of color, and non-western and ethnically diverse sources. Advise and assist students. Develop strategies to meet the needs of a diverse student population. Facilitate and advocate for student success, especially for those from traditionally disadvantaged groups.

Assist with developing and maintaining the department's equity plan and socially just practices. Help the college meet its commitment to global, cultural, social and environmental awareness through the praxis of equity, social justice and multicultural education. Commit to professional development and a practice of cultural humility.

Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to serve on district and college committees and participate in campus extra-curricular activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
• Master's degree in philosophy OR Bachelor's degree in philosophy AND Master's in humanities or religious students OR The equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience teaching Philosophy at the post-secondary level using inclusive pedagogies and course content at the post-secondary level to students of ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to use various teaching methods that engage students in their own learning, including methods that motivate students to develop their higher level thinking skills.
• Demonstrated teaching experience in the history of western philosophy (especially Ancient Greek and/or Early Modern) and/or feminist philosophy.
• Ability to incorporate critical and equity pedagogies as well as apply equity mindedness to classroom engagement.
• Knowledge and experience applying culturally responsive practices.
• Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm and interest in working cooperatively with colleagues in multiple departments and in serving on college committees in a shared governance organization.
• Experience integrating technology into the classroom.
• Possession of a Ph.D. in Philosophy.

HIRING RANGE: $55,073.00 - $90,449.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.
