Job description

We seek to appoint a philosopher with outstanding teaching, research ability and potential. The successful candidate will have expertise within the area of Metaphysics and Epistemology and relevant competence in Philosophy of Mind or Philosophy of Language.  

The successful candidate will be able to offer research supervision in their area of specialization; contribute to teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses in the areas of their competence; and substantially add to the existing research environment of the Department, including the pursuit of external research funding.  

The successful candidate is likely to have a PhD in a relevant subject area or be close to completion. Previous experience of teaching at degree level is an advantage. Effective communication skills are essential, as are willingness and competence in carrying out the duties of the Department in a timely and efficient manner.

Salary: Grade 7 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £36,150 rising to £41,318 per annum.  

This post is full time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE) and open-ended. The salary quoted above is on the College's London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 3 years.
