Job description

Miami University Regional Campuses is seeking qualified applicants for teaching Philosophy courses within the Department of Humanities and Creative Arts. AOS: ethics. AOC: introductory formal logic. Courses to be taught may include a topical introduction to philosophy (e.g., Theories of Human Nature), Introduction to Ethics, introductory Formal Logic, and any two of the following 300-level courses: Contemporary Moral Problems, Medical Ethics, Ethical Theory, Feminist Theory, Confronting Death, Philosophy of Art, or Environmental Philosophy. Possibility of teaching a one-credit first year experience course that helps new students transition to Miami. Summer teaching may also be possible. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide appropriate service to the institution, profession, and/or community.

There are two positions, one on Miami's Hamilton Campus and one on its Middletown Campus. Candidates who wish to be considered for one position only should state this explicitly in their cover letters; otherwise, candidates will be considered for both positions.

The positions start August 22, 2016. The positions are for one year with the possibility of renewal.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Philosophy by date of hire for appointment as Visiting Assistant Professor; ABD in Philosophy for appointment as Instructor. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience teaching the courses listed; experience teaching non-traditional students or at a commuter campus; experience teaching advanced courses (300-level) to non-majors.
