One Year Special Appointment

Academic Year 2016 – 2017

The Department of Philosophy & Humanistic Studies at Western Connecticut State University invites applications for a one-year, full-time temporary appointment for the 2016-2017 academic year. The ideal candidate will be prepared to develop and teach a wide variety of classes in both philosophy and interdisciplinary studies. All specializations in both interdisciplinary studies and philosophy are welcome. With the new interdisciplinary major next fall, there will be many opportunities to develop new classes and refine the curriculum for both the interdisciplinary program and the philosophy program. The ability to teach the following classes will be particularly useful: Philosophy of Women and Gender; Philosophy of Religion; Environmental Philosophy; an interdisciplinary course on Sustainable Living; an Introduction to Philosophy class with a first year seminar (college orientation) component; Informal Logic. Instructors at WCSU teach four (4) courses (12 credits) per semester. Additional information on the department may be found at www.wcsu.edu/philosophy.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a completed Ph.D. by August 22, 2016. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. WCSU is a dynamic and diverse workplace so the proven ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures is highly valued.

Salary & Benefits: Salary range will be $59,668 - $80,030. In addition to a comprehensive benefit package, WCSU offers competitive salaries commensurate with candidates' experience. Additional information can be found on our website at www.wcsu.edu/hr/benefits/.
