WADHAM COLLEGE, OXFORD

STIPENDIARY LECTURERSHIP IN PHILOSOPHY

1st September 2016 – 31st August 2017

Post: The College proposes to appoint a 7-hour Stipendiary Lecturer in Philosophy for the 2016-17 academic year to support the College’s teaching needs whilst Professor Paseau, one of the College’s two Tutorial Fellows in Philosophy, assumes enhanced Faculty responsibilities.  The postholder will be employed by the College, but will be a member of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Oxford for the duration of the post as well as a member of Wadham College, and will have some Faculty responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities: The main College teaching focus for this post will be for the University’s Prelims paper ‘General Philosophy’ and for the Final Honour School (FHS) paper ‘Knowledge and Reality’ and others as may be needed. The College expects the postholder’s teaching to be informed by their on-going scholarship within the research community. The lecturer will be required to give six hours per week of tutorials during the eight-week term for Wadham College, and be available during both term and vacations to offer organizational, pastoral and admissions support.

The lecturer will be required to deliver one eight-hour course of lectures in Metaphysics, Epistemology or Philosophy of Logic and Language for the Faculty, and to complete a full examining load for the following FHS papers and theses/extended essays in related areas: 127. Philosophical Logic; 108. The Philosophy of Logic and Language; 122. Philosophy of Mathematics; and 117. Frege, Russell, and Wittgenstein.

Qualifications Required: The successful candidate will have a doctorate, or will have submitted a doctoral thesis by 1st October 2016, and must have proven teaching experience in the subject range to be covered.

Salary: The stipend will be on a scale from £15,032 p.a. (the Senior Tutors’ Committee recommended scale), subject to revision in line with national adjustments to University teachers' salaries.  The position is superannuable under USS.

This post is not eligible for UK visa sponsorship.
