FACULTY OF PHILOSOPHY

Departmental Lecturer in Philosophy of Mind

Grade 7: £30,738 - £32,600 per annum

The Faculty of Philosophy, University of Oxford, intends to appoint a Departmental Lecturer in Philosophy of Mind, tenable from 1 October 2016 for a fixed term of 10 months.

The person appointed will be expected to provide undergraduate and graduate teaching in Philosophy of Mind, and in one or more of the following areas: Philosophy of Cognitive Science, Moral Psychology, Philosophy of Psychiatry, Metaphysics, Epistemology, and Philosophical Logic. This will include designing and delivering up to 32 hours of lectures or graduate classes in 2016/17, and undertaking up to 4 hours of tutorial teaching per week. In addition, the appointed person will conduct research in the area of Philosophy of Mind, and will act as assessor for undergraduate and graduate examinations. The precise configuration of duties and areas of teaching will be agreed on appointment.

The successful candidate should normally have received the degree of PhD or DPhil by 1 October 2016, or at least have submitted a completed doctoral dissertation for examination by that date, but candidates who do not meet this requirement may be considered, if they have attained a comparable level through their publications.

Candidates must have an outstanding research record appropriate to the stage of their career with evidence of, or evidence of potential for producing, significant research in the area of Philosophy of Mind. She or he must provide evidence of the ability to provide excellent teaching in the area of Philosophy of Mind and in some or all of the above sub-areas, and must have the ability and willingness to assume pastoral responsibilities associated with undergraduate and graduate teaching, and to act as an assessor at graduate and undergraduate level..  

The person appointed will be provided with office space by the Faculty of Philosophy.
