Job description |
The Department of Philosophy at Santa Clara University, a private Jesuit, Catholic university, invites applications for a full-time adjunct lecturer. This is a fixed one-year term position. AOS/AOC are open, but the successful applicant must be able to teach lower division ethics courses and a two-quarter freshman core sequence in Cultures and Ideas. Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to, and exemplary record of, undergraduate teaching in philosophy. The courseload may range from seven to nine courses over three academic quarters; however, the typical adjunct lecturer teaching load in the College of Arts and Sciences and in the department of Philosophy is seven courses over three quarters. Salary and benefits competitive. Located in the heart of northern California’s Silicon Valley, Santa Clara University is a private Jesuit, Catholic university and an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer, committed to excellence through diversity and inclusion; in this spirit we particularly welcome applications from women, persons of color, and members of historically underrepresented groups. The University will provide reasonable accommodations to all qualified individuals with a disability. Ph.D. in Philosophy prior to date of appointment is preferred. The successful candidate will have experience and a proven record of excellence in teaching undergraduates, along with evidence of scholarly engagement. The ability to teach lower-division core courses in one or more areas of applied ethics and ethical theory is essential, as is the ability to teach a two-quarter freshman core course in Cultures and Ideas. Experience working with people of diverse cultures and identities, and potential to contribute to one or more departmental, college, or university priorities will be especially valued. Applicants should be aware of Jesuit educational philosophy, the social justice mission of the university, and the mission of the Department of Philosophy at Santa Clara University. Duties include, but are not limited to, teaching between seven and nine courses over three quarters, including: 1. Conduct assigned class meetings and exams while demonstrating a command of the discipline and pedagogical skill. Santa Clara University does not sponsor any visa applications for this position. The successful candidate must be able to provide evidence of identity and legal authorization to work in the United States. |
