Job description

Job Title: Faculty Position (Philosophy)  

Department: Division of Humanities  

Job Posting Details  

The Division of Humanities invites applications for a faculty position in Philosophy at Assistant Professor rank to be filled beginning Fall 2017. The appointee will teach undergraduate courses in humanities for general education and the new undergraduate major program in Global China Studies offered by the School of Humanities and Social Science. The successful applicant will also be involved in postgraduate teaching in the field of his/her specialty.  

Applicants should have a PhD degree from a reputable university and demonstrated academic record on, or potential in, research and publication with international impact. A track record of successful competitive grant applications and/or excellent record of teaching at college level will be advantageous. The area of specialization is western moral and political philosophy with an interest in Chinese intellectual traditions in comparative perspective. Interdisciplinary and interregional research orientation, proven potential to develop teaching and research in the broad direction of digital humanities, or the ability to connect to the strength of science and technology fields of the University will be taken into consideration. Senior academics with very outstanding credentials of leadership in scholarship and academic administration may also be considered. While fluency in English is expected for all, proficiency in Chinese language is expected if China is part of the research agenda.

Salary is highly competitive. Fringe benefits include medical/dental benefits and annual leave. Housing benefits will also be provided where applicable. Initial appointment at Assistant Professor rank will normally be made on a three-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
