Job description

The University of Maine Department of Philosophy invites applications for a fixed-length, non tenure track academic-year appointment as Lecturer, effective August 29, 2016.  Area of specialization is open, but preference for Ethics or Bioethics.  Area of competence is open.  The successful applicant must be able to teach Biomedical Ethics, Ethical Theory, Contemporary Moral Problems, and Logic.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Teaching load is eight courses split over two semesters.  There are no administrative or service responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications Required:

  • Demonstrated interest in and successful experience in teaching undergraduate philosophy courses in ethics.
  • Ph.D. or ABD in Philosophy or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated or potential excellence as an instructor of undergraduate students.
  • Demonstrated effective oral, written, and electronic communication skills.
