Job description

Assistant Professor of Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy at Salisbury University's Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts is accepting applications for the position of full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Philosophy.

Area of Specialization: Preference for least one area of applied philosophy, e.g., professional ethics (esp. medical/healthcare ethics), philosophy of race, applied social/political philosophy or environmental philosophy.

Primary Job Duties: Teach 3 introductory level courses and 3 upper level courses per academic year; expected to connect with other departments and programs on campus and beyond. Develop our course offerings in the areas of medical/healthcare ethics. Candidates must utilize effective teaching and classroom management strategies which enhance the success of diverse learners.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or ABD in philosophy or related field, with a strong preference for Ph.D. If ABD, would be hired at the rank of Instructor, with requirement that candidate complete Doctoral degree within one year from date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in undergraduate teaching or mentoring. Demonstrated understanding regarding the history of philosophy, broadly construed. Ability to augment the department's existing commitment to experiential learning and community engagement.
