The Department of Bioethics and Interdisciplinary Studies at the Brody School of Medicine announces an immediate opening for a fixed-term Teaching Assistant or Associate Professor, with the potential of conversion to tenure track. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, teaching bioethics, research ethics, and/or applied areas of the humanities in the medical sciences to medical students, residents, graduate students, and learners and clinicians in other healthcare fields within the Brody School of Medicine and other health-related programs, and teaching in other programs at East Carolina University. Responsibilities also include other activities related to scholarship and service, including providing clinical ethics services (e.g., consultations) for the affiliated Vidant Medical Center through the department's Bioethics Collaborative. Salary is competitive and commensurate with credentials and experience. The Brody School of Medicine, located in Greenville, NC, is part of East Carolina University. The school has a tripartite mission: to increase the supply of primary care physicians to serve this state, to improve the health status of citizens in eastern North Carolina, and to enhance the access of minority and disadvantaged students to a medical education. Department website: http://www.ecu.edu/bioethics/. A terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., J.D., D.H.C.E.) from an appropriately accredited institution in a relevant discipline is required. Exceptional applicants who have completed all-but-dissertation requirements for a terminal degree may be considered. Strong academic credentials and formal training in ethics are important. Applicants with experience in medical schools, hospitals, academic medical centers, clinical ethics consultation or other healthcare settings will be especially competitive.
