Job description |
The Department of Philosophy at Penn State University [http://philosophy.la.psu.edu] invites applications for a tenure track position, at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, beginning Fall 2017. The Department seeks scholars whose teaching and research center on the Ethics of Borders. Specifically, the scholar will engage in work that illuminates the many inter-related philosophical, ethical, political, and legal questions arising from the increased movement of people within and across national boundaries – including refugees fleeing persecution; other forced migrants such as those fleeing violence, poverty, and the effects of climate change; and migrant workers seeking economic stability. Area of Specialization: Ethics and/or Political Philosophy, with emphasis on the ethics of immigration, migration, citizenship, or related areas. The ideal candidate will complement the department’s existing strengths in social and political philosophy, feminist philosophy, critical philosophy of race, and Continental philosophy. Preference will be given to candidates whose work is informed by an engagement with the history of philosophy and who have a demonstrated ability to promote dialogue across philosophical traditions. Minimum qualifications: PhD in philosophy or related fields. |
