The Department of Philosophy at the University of York has committed resources to supporting a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow from 2012-15.

We propose to hold a competitive selection process and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates.  The Department has particular strengths in Philosophy of Mind, Ethics and History of Philosophy, but will consider applications in all sub-disciplines.

Before applying candidates sure ensure that they are eligible for a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship (http://www.leverhulme.ac.uk/funding/ECF/eligibility.cfm) in the current round.  Candidates should also make contact with the member of the Department closest to their area to discuss the suitability of pursuing their project at York.  Informal enquiries may also be made to the Head of Department (Prof Tom Stoneham, [email protected]) or the Director of Research (Prof Paul Noordhof, [email protected]).

Applications should be emailed to the Department Administrator, Mrs Julie Kay ([email protected]) by 12 noon on Friday 3rd February 2012.  The successful candidate will be notified on or before the 13th February 2012 and will be offered professional support in completing their application to the Leverhulme Trust before the deadline of 8th March.

Application Procedure

The following should be sent as email attachments in MSWord or PDF formats to [email protected]:

1.     A statement confirming eligibility for the Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship 2012.  Please include dates of doctoral vivas and other pertinent information in this statement.

2.     A CV detailing qualifications, employment history, area of specialization, publications and other research activities (e.g. conference papers).

3.     Names, email addresses and, if possible, telephone numbers of two referees.

4.     Research Proposal (maximum 2000 words).  This should sections on research questions, context and dissemination plans.  It may also include a section on impact.

5.     A writing sample (article or book chapter).
