Job description |
The Department of Philosophy at Carnegie Mellon University seeks applications for a full-time, teaching-track position at the rank of assistant or beginning level associate professor beginning Fall 2017. This is a career-oriented, renewable appointment with primary responsibilities for teaching and contributions to the educational mission of the university. Carnegie Mellon University offers teaching-track appointments at assistant, associate and full teaching professor ranks with multi-year contracts and promotion opportunities. The teaching load of 9 courses over 4 semesters reflects the position’s special emphasis on classroom teaching. Demonstrable professional growth during the term of appointment, such as research, engagement in the professional community, or publication of educational materials will be required for reappointment. Teaching-track faculty are also eligible for a one-semester paid sabbatical every four years. Successful candidates will have a PhD in philosophy and a demonstrated commitment to a program of research involving the empirical research on improving the practice of classroom learning and instruction. Successful candidates must have the ability to teach in areas that cohere with the department’s philosophical strengths and orientation. |
