Southern Oregon University invites applications for a 9-month renewable, faculty position in Philosophy, in the Division of Humanities and Culture, at the Instructor level. Desired Areas of Specialization (AOS) are in one or more of the following: Ancient Philosophy, Continental Philosophy, Aesthetics, or Environmental Philosophy. Area of Competency (AOC) is open, but successful candidates will demonstrate ability and experience in teaching service courses such as Introduction to Philosophy and History of Philosophy: Ancient through Medieval Periods. Special consideration given to candidates who can also teach courses in Aesthetics/Philosophy of Art, 19th and 20th Century Continental Philosophy, Environmental Philosophy and/or Philosophy of Mind. SOU’s academic calendar follows the quarter system, with a 44-45 credit hour teaching load per 9 month appointment. Sample teaching load for this position is 3/4/4, equivalent to 12-16 credit hours per term. Position is primarily on campus, in Ashland, Oregon. Teaching assignments may include University Studies/Seminar, online courses, and day or evening courses. SOU’s Philosophy Program is a thriving Minor that offers courses serving many other academic programs, as well as SOU’s University Studies curriculum. We seek a colleague who is active in the discipline and who demonstrates a record of dynamic and successful teaching.
