The Department of Philosophy at the University of Warwick seeks to appoint a Professor of Philosophy and Head of Department.
You will have an outstanding academic profile and a track record of internationally leading research and publication. There is no preference as to the area of research. It is anticipated that you will assume the role of Head of Department during the first year of your appointment. Whilst the professorship will be a permanent appointment, the Head of Department role is for a 5-year term, renewable.
You will continue to do internationally leading research and will undertake the administrative and management functions of a Head of Department, including management of the department's finances. You will also be expected to contribute to senior-level administration within the University.
You will provide intellectual and academic leadership, working with and supporting other staff in developing both their research and teaching potential. You will play a leading role in developing the research strategy of the department, including preparing the department for the Research Excellence Framework 2013.
The Department of Philosophy is one of the largest in the UK, with 19 permanent staff, including 9 full professors. Among the areas in which Warwick excels are Continental Philosophy, Philosophy of Mind, and Philosophy of Art. The department also contributes to Warwick's flagship PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) programme and is in the process of strengthening and expanding its resources in moral and political philosophy.
