UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON, DAYTON, OH. The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a Lecturer position, beginning August 16, 2017.

Description

The University of Dayton, with a College of Arts and Sciences and professional schools of Business Administration, Education and Health Sciences, Engineering, and Law has a full-time undergraduate enrollment of approximately 8,000 undergraduate students. All undergraduate students take twelve hours of philosophy and religious studies. The Philosophy Department currently has eighteen tenure-line faculty and four lecturers and offers strong major and minor programs. We are a pluralistic department, open to many philosophical traditions. The typical teaching load is eight undergraduate courses per academic year (four per semester), including introductory, general education, and upper level offerings. Some summer teaching may be available.

Required qualifications

We require a master’s degree in Philosophy.  We require teaching experience as the instructor of record, and evidence of excellence in teaching courses in at least one of the following areas: peace studies, social/political philosophy, or human rights.

Preferred qualifications

PhD in Philosophy is preferred, with AOS in peace studies or social/political philosophy.  We prefer candidates with demonstrated success in teaching students from diverse backgrounds. We prefer candidates with the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in and beyond the department; effective interpersonal skills; the ability to attract new majors to Philosophy; effective classroom management skills; and the demonstrated ability to engage students.
