Job description

Royal Holloway, University of London, invites applications for a Lecturer in Philosophy, tenable from 1 September 2012.

Lecturer Salary is in the range £39,146 to £46,300 per annum inclusive
of London Allowance.

Philosophy is an emerging discipline in the College, and currently offers a series of joint and minor degrees with other arts, humanities and social science departments, as well as with Physics and Mathematics.  From September 2012 it will also be contributing to a new undergraduate degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE).  It also offers an MA in Modern Philosophy.  In addition to a core of dedicated philosophers, the group includes colleagues from Classics, English, Drama, and Politics and International Relations.  From September 2012 the subject will be incorporated into the Department of Politics and International Relations.

We aspire to develop an approach unique amongst philosophy programmes in the UK insofar as it neglects arbitrary divisions within the discipline and connects it both to its own history and to related disciplines across the humanities and social sciences.  We welcome applications from candidates able to contribute to these goals.  We have an interest in candidates who are able to contribute to undergraduate teaching in ethics, but the AOS is open.  We expect candidates to have an established record of research excellence, or demonstrable potential for such excellence, and to have a PhD in hand by 1 September 2012.
