Job Description:

The Philosophy Department at Franklin & Marshall College seeks an Instructor for F&M SWEEP (Summer Workshop promoting Equality for Emerging Philosophers), a 4-week intensive summer course for rising sophomores and juniors from backgrounds historically underrepresented in Philosophy (students of color, women, LGBT+, economically disadvantaged, first-generation college attenders, and/or those with disabilities). The instructor will have a demonstrated commitment to supporting and cultivating these historically underrepresented students.  

The instructor will be responsible for designing and teaching a for-credit course which will meet three hours a day, four days a week, and participating in out of class philosophical activities. He or she will be supervised and mentored by full time Franklin & Marshall Philosophy Faculty.

This position includes generous pay along with room and board for the program's duration, June 11th - July 8th, 2017.

Requirements:

Applicants will have completed at least 3 years of graduate study with at least 1 year of teaching experience by summer 2017. Applicants should submit the following materials:

  • A cover letter describing the applicant's interest in and qualifications for the position
  • A curriculum vitae
  • 2 confidential letters of recommendation (at least 1 from a source familiar with the applicant's teaching experience) emailed to Nicole Hoover at [email protected]
  • A statement on teaching in diverse classrooms
  • A graduate transcript
  • Evidence of teaching success, such as student evaluations

The ability and willingness to provide excellent service and to work in a collegial manner with students, faculty and staff, and other constituencies is essential.
