Job description |
The Philosophy Department invites applications for a full-time visiting professor position (rank open), beginning Autumn 2017. The position may be for one or two semesters, depending on the needs of the department and the interest of the appointee. This is not a permanent position, and the candidate must have an on-going appointment at another institution. The position carries a 9-credit workload per term (i.e., 2-3 courses, depending on class size). There are no expectations of advising or administrative duties in the department. The area of specialization is open, but the department has special teaching needs in 19th- and 20th-century Continental European philosophy, with preference given to candidates who can teach one or more movements or figures from this period (e.g., existential phenomenology, critical theory, Nietzsche, Heidegger). A Ph.D. in hand, prior teaching experience in philosophy, and demonstrated teaching effectiveness, are required. Salary is commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. |
