Job description

The Departments of Philosophy and Liberal Studies in Humanities at University of Southern Maine seeks to hire a tenure track Assistant Professor of Philosophy. AOS Philosophy of Religion, Comparative Religion; AOC Medieval Philosophy, Islamic Philosophy, Asian Philosophy, or comparable concentrations in the history of Philosophy. The Department currently has needs in American Philosophy, Asian Philosophy, and Analytic Philosophy.  The position carries a course load of three courses per semester. 

Beginning in fall 2017, the successful candidate will teach three of the following,  Philosophy of Religion, Introduction to Religious Studies, Comparative Religion, Death and Dying, Medieval Philosophy, Introducing the Humanities, or Capstone in the Humanities. Additional courses supporting Philosophy and Liberal Studies Majors can be developed in subsequent semesters.  Candidates must have expertise in online teaching, and be willing to teach at all three of USM’s campuses.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ph.D. in Philosophy by time of appointment
  • Competency in the interdisciplinary study of religion

Anticipated salary range – low 50’s
