Job description

The School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (SIAS) at the University of Washington Tacoma invites applications for one Full-Time Lecturer position with a specialization in Global Ethics, a concentration in any area of Applied Ethics, and the capacity to contribute to UW Tacoma’s commitment to diversity and global citizenship. We are particularly interested in applicants whose scholarship also addresses cross-cultural or comparative approaches to Ethics. This is a full-time position with a 9-month service period and renewable appointment terms of 1 to 5 years beginning September 16, 2017.  The position requires a Master’s degree or higher in Philosophy, Religious Studies, Political Theory or a related field (or international equivalent) at the time of appointment, and college-level teaching experience.  Candidates should demonstrate creative and dynamic pedagogy and a commitment to addressing global justice questions in multicultural contexts.

The successful candidate will become an integral member of an interdisciplinary faculty team committed to excellence and innovation in teaching, scholarship, and service. The candidate is expected to teach innovative classes on Introduction to Ethics or Practical Reasoning within our interdisciplinary curriculum as well as upper-division courses that emphasize a global approach to Ethics. Additionally, the candidate will mentor students from different backgrounds enrolled in various majors within SIAS, promote intellectual and cultural diversity on campus, and support students in their process of becoming global citizens. The successful candidate will contribute to the majors in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, and Law and Policy offered by the Division of Politics, Philosophy and Public Affairs (PPPA) which is housed within the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (SIAS).
