Job description

The Women’s and Gender Studies Program at the University of North Texas invites applications for the position of director. Ideally, the new director will begin in August 2017, but the start date is negotiable. To be considered, candidates must have a Ph.D. in Women’s and Gender Studies or a related discipline and currently hold a tenured position at the rank of associate or full professor. They also must have made a significant research contribution to the field and have an ongoing research program that extends feminist inquiry into the intersections of gender with class, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or other social justice issues. In addition, candidates must have a record of teaching excellence at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. With the recent approval of a Master’s Degree in Women’s and Gender Studies, we especially seek applications from scholars who have interest in and vision for further developing this program. The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary and a tenured appointment at the rank of associate or full professor in an appropriate department of the College of Arts and Sciences. Academic Divisions of UNT’s College of Arts and Sciences may be found here: https://cas.unt.edu/departments.

The Women’s and Gender Studies Program at UNT cultivates a vibrant, interdisciplinary, globally-oriented learning experience for undergraduate and graduate students. The program currently offers a minor and a Master’s Degree in Women’s and Gender Studies. Courses are taught by the program’s core faculty as well as by 38 affiliated faculty from 19 UNT departments. Students are encouraged to participate in internships and study-abroad opportunities the program provides. Please find additional information about the program at http://womensstudies.unt.edu.

The program director will be responsible for providing intellectual and scholarly leadership; for cultivating critical relationships with stakeholders across UNT, other institutions, and the community; for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (typically 2 courses per academic year); and for coordinating the program’s operations.

Preferred qualifications include prior administrative experience, such as directing a program or center or chairing a department. Preference will be given to candidates whose scholarship and/or administrative experience aligns with the interdisciplinary, global perspective our program emphasizes.

Inquiries and nominations for the position may be directed to Dr. Nicole Smith, Chair of the Search Committee, at [email protected].

Candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, research statement, and a list of five references to http://facultyjobs.unt.edu. All materials will be held in strictest confidence. We will notify candidates for permission to contact references.

Review of applications will begin on January 10, 2017 and will continue until the search is closed.

The University of North Texas is an AA/ADA/EOE.
