Professor of Ancient Philosophy

The Faculty of Philosophy is seeking to appoint to the Professorship of Ancient Philosophy, with effect from 1 September 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful candidate will be a philosopher of the highest international standing, with an outstanding record of research and publication in ancient philosophy, the ability to teach and inspire students at all levels, and the ability and willingness to exercise leadership in the faculty. In particular, the person appointed will be expected to provide strong research leadership in ancient philosophy and to be ready to represent and promote the interests of ancient philosophy and of philosophy more generally among the whole community of students and faculty members in Oxford, to generate interest in the subject within the academic world and beyond, and to lead interdisciplinary initiatives as appropriate.
