Job description

The University of Zurich invites applications for an

Assistant Professorship Tenure Track in Philosophy with a focus on Theoretical Philosophy

The post should be filled by August 1, 2018. After two temporary three-year contracts it will become tenured, on the condition that the candidate successfully completes the evaluation process.

The successful candidate should have a distinguished international research profile in at least one field of Theoretical Philosophy. She or he is expected to cover both systematic and historical areas in research and teaching. Readiness to participate in disciplinary and interdisciplinary cooperations within the university as well as at a national and international level is a prerequisite. It is desirable that the successful candidate should complement and/or deepen the existing areas of specialization in Theoretical Philosophy and the History of Philosophy (Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Language, Epistemology, Modern Philosophy, History of Analytic Philosophy).

Candidates should hold a PhD degree and have an excellent record of academic achievements in the relevant field (for example an advanced postdoctoral research or Habilitation project). Teaching may be carried out in English. Since administrative work is conducted in German at the University of Zurich, non-German speaking candidates are expected to acquire a working knowledge of German within two years of appointment. The University of Zurich seeks to increase the number of women in leading academic positions, it therefore specifically encourages qualified women to apply.

The closing date for applications is February 19, 2017. Details concerning the application procedure can be accessed at www.phil.uzh.ch/jobs.html. For further information, please contact Prof. Dr. Hans-Johann Glock ([email protected]).
